Graduate Hardware In The Loop Engineer

After earning a 1st class BSc Physics Degree from University of East Anglia. I knew I wanted a job where I could be hands on. I didn’t know much about MBDA but after coming to Stevenage for my interview, I left desperate to be offered the job. 

On the graduate scheme we have four 6-month placements and in my experience so far, the beginning of the placement is quite full on as there’s so much to learn, but by the end of each placement I have been much more confident within my role and have been trusted with more responsibilities.

I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of support in place for new starters; colleagues were very willing to spend time teaching and getting me up to speed. I really like the fact that on the graduate scheme, we are exposed to lots of different roles within and outside our department, as it gives us time to explore our strengths and find what we enjoy.

There are lots of opportunities to support career development at MBDA. For example, I have taken on the role of ‘Dynamic Working Champion’ within my department to develop my organisational skills as well as giving me some management responsibilities. Learning in the workplace takes place in a number of ways including more formalised knowledge transfer presentations as well as workplace shadowing, and learning through exposure.

The role I applied for matched everything I was looking for in a graduate job – every day is different, lots of hands on experience, and lots and lots to learn!
