Sustainability
We take responsibility for making a difference.

We care about our impact

In the UK, we have close to 5,000 people working hard to deliver products and services that enable our armed forces to defend our nations and protect the societies in which we live.

We take pride in the work that we do helping to provide stability necessary for economic growth and people’s wellbeing, whilst also working together with our local, national and industry communities to protect our planet and make a positive impact on communities.

Our achievements are outlined in our Group’s annual Sustainability Report.

Environment

Our Carbon Neutrality 2050 Roadmap plots our MBDA Group’s path to net zero greenhouse gas emissions, and we report progress in an annual MBDA UK Carbon Reduction Plan.

In 2023, our UK Managing Director, Chris Allam signed the UK Defence Aviation Net Zero Charter, demonstrating our commitment to helping our sector to decarbonise, whilst maintaining operational effectiveness.

While we know this will be an incredible challenge, at MBDA we are working together towards this ambitious goal.

Our Design Engineers are exploring new technologies (without compromising on product performance), our Procurement & Supply Chain teams working with our suppliers on more sustainable solutions, and colleagues across the business are all finding ways to reduce our energy consumption and emissions.

STEM Outreach & Education

Around 60% of MBDA employees work in a team focussed on Engineering, Design or Technology. These professions require certain skills that are often in short supply with the UK workforce.

That's why we are committed to encouraging more young people to study STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) in our local communities. We do this through outreach programmes with schools, charities and dedicated events.

As part of our STEM Ambassador programme, MBDA UK employees can take up to 5 paid special leave days a year to volunteer for STEM related outreach work and volunteering.

Charity & Volunteering

Charity Dinner.jpg

Almost every day at MBDA you will hear of colleagues raising money for charity, running an event, or volunteering on local community projects.

Our people take part in Charity Challenge to raise money for a range of charities; from one-off bake-sale events, to annual charity gala dinners. MBDA UK matches colleague fundraising, to a certain level, and makes corporate charitable donations.

In 2023, our annual charity dinner raised £250,000. The money raised was donated to the support service charities: SAFFA, ABF, RNRMC and RAFBF; as well as three charities near to our MBDA sites – Haven First, Bolton Hospice and Help Bristol’s Homeless.

Permanent employees can take one paid volunteering day a year. Popular choices involve community gardening and supporting ex-veterans through forces charities.
