Celebrating our two winners in the British Ex-Forces in Business Awards 2024
We are proud to share news of two of our four finalists at the British Ex-Forces in Business Awards 2024 were announced as winners at a gala event at the end of June.
Mark, one of our executives in exports, won Innovator of the Year, and Tony, one of our managers in customer services and support, won the Military Values in Business Award.
Reacting to his award Mark said, “I was really surprised and delighted to receive the award. However, it is actually a recognition of the fantastic collective team effort that went into realising the innovation I envisaged.”
Similarly, on finding out he had won Tony said, “I was completely shocked when my name was read out. It was totally unexpected, especially when there were so many deserving nominees there on the night. I felt hugely honoured to receive the award.”
Mark, who had 31 years as a Naval and Fleet Air Arm officer prior to joining MBDA, was nominated for is work overcoming the challenge of producing immersive product demonstrations for customers that realistically replicated the operational scenarios they would use them in. All without actually deploying to a test range and firing a single missile. The nomination described Mark - and his work - as “pioneering and visionary”.
Tony, who joined MBDA in 2014 after long career in the RAF, was nominated for his role in ensuring one of MBDA’s customers is able to maintain its operational effectiveness. His nomination described him as “key to the success” the project, and that his “values of service life... transferred into his civilian life” benefitting those he works with.
Whilst the awards were individual ones, Mark and Tony didn’t forget those that helped them win.
“I want to thank my colleagues who worked on the project, and especially the Royal Navy Operations Officer we worked with for his contribution, enthusiasm and professional support” said Mark.
“I am deeply grateful to [my colleague] Matt for nominating me in the first place”, said Tony, adding, “Thanks also go to the fantastic team that I am part of, both in MBDA and those in the MOD I work with.”
There were honourable mentions too for our other finalists Andrew, one of our technical executives, in the Engineering Excellence category and Simon, one of our senior advisors, in the Lifetime Achievement category.
Overall, 21 winners were selected from over 900 nominations, all of whom were described as exceptional role models to service leavers and tremendous examples of the huge value that veterans add to the economy post their service.
Congratulations Mark and Tony!
