It’s National Engineering Day on Wednesday, 13th November. As a company committed to developing the next generation of engineers, we are proud to support a day that raises public awareness of how engineers make a difference in the world and celebrate how engineers shape the future.

This year, the theme for National Engineering Day 2024 is 'engineering role models', which has inspired some of our up-and-coming engineers to use the day as a Launchpad to ask their colleagues who our own 'engineering role models' are in our company.

Findley, who is on one of our Graduate engineering programmes, and part of the team behind the event, said, “We are using National Engineering Day to ask our colleagues to nominate their engineering role models for reward and recognition, and more than that, inspire us all to become role models too. Some of us may value adaptability and resilience in the face of a challenge. Others may value those who go above and beyond without being asked. What we hope is that we will see a variety of behaviours in the nominations.”

Emma, one of our Senior Mechanical Engineers and also part of the team, gave more insight into the behaviours an engineering role model might display, adding, "Having an innovative mind-set and a creative outlook as an engineer is important. So it's equally important to see this in our role models. At MBDA, innovation and passion are two of our values. We see this in our teams and our colleagues, which is inspiring. With National Engineering Day, we are now working to recognise this formally and not take it for granted.

Georgia, another team member and former apprentice, now one of our Senior Systems engineers, further added “This event is the perfect opportunity to show and appreciate the role models within MBDA and the impact they have on employees and the company. It is also great to see the diversity and inclusivity we have at MBDA shows that our internal engineering role models come from all backgrounds. This is important in inspiring future engineers because you can't be what you can't see.”

MBDA are proud to sponsor the Royal Academy of Engineering’s This is Engineering campaign that National Engineering Day is part of.
Engineers make up around 60 per cent of our workforce globally, so you can see why we value them so highly. We’re always on the lookout for new talent too. Whether you are looking to start your career with an apprenticeship or graduate programme, or are looking for the next step in your career, we have many roles on offer. Why not check them out here?
