Celebrating Success with Movement to Work
Monday 29 April 2024
At MBDA, we are now in our third year of running the Movement to Work (MTW) programme and are already celebrating success! One of our very first MTW graduates, Ryan, joined MBDA in September 2023 on the Business Degree Apprenticeship and has kindly shared his story with us on his journey from before the programme until now:
Over the years, I have had various jobs in catering and a hospital and volunteered for the local Scouts group and charity shops. At sixth form, I studied a BTEC in Business, Sociology, and Media which I enjoyed but after finishing my course, I didn’t have a plan for my future and was unsure of my next steps. My biggest challenge was self-confidence; I was really unsure of myself and my capabilities. I applied to MBDA’s Movement to Work course to allow me to gain employability skills and improve my self-confidence. The course helped me to work on communication and presentation skills. I learned to embrace feedback and use it to develop further. I was pushed outside of my comfort zone which helped me build my confidence. After completing the course, I applied for the ‘Business Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship’ at MBDA.
I am now proudly in my first year of the Apprenticeship and enjoying studying alongside gaining real-life work experience. I now feel more confident about my future and looking forward to graduating off the Apprenticeship, into a full-time position within Commercial, Project Management, or Procurement. My highlights so far have been working on site re-designs and taking trips to Pompeii and France! I have enjoyed working in a relaxed environment with welcoming and supportive people. I use my communication skills on a daily basis at MBDA and I enjoy building strong networks with stakeholders.’
We are also pleased to announce that Elsie, our MTW lead, was named as the MTW Mentor of the Year at the annual awards evening in April 2024.
The Future of Movement to Work at MBDA looks very bright and we will share more stories just like Ryan’s as we have more young people joining our Apprenticeships in September who completed the programme in 2023.
